Asia’s Leading Rehab Receives First Clients

Breathing Space Thailand has now received its first group of clients at their new drug and alcohol addiction rehab facility, near Chiang Mai in Northern Thailand.

Breathing Space Thailand provides excellent standards of individualized addiction treatment for a maximum of 11 clients, using a holistic mind, body and soul approach in a drug and alcohol addiction rehab program that runs from 1 to 3 months.

Breathing Space Thailand’s treatment program incorporates the 12 Step model of addiction recovery in conjunction with a psychotherapy program and a superb array of complementary therapies that include yoga, body balance, massage and a full range of spa treatments as a counter-point to the brain-work aspect of the psychotherapy program.

Stephen Russell explains,

In offering a Whole Person approach to drug and alcohol addiction recovery, we felt it was important to include a wide range of complementary therapies in our addictions treatment program, many of which have a uniquely Eastern flavor, to support our clients in finding new ways to relax during early recovery from addiction. Stress is a massive trigger for relapse during those first tentative months of addiction recovery. By including a diverse range of complementary therapies in our program, we are able to support our clients in finding new ways to relax and enjoy themselves during their early recovery from drug or alcohol addiction.

The use of complementary therapies is part of a wider strategy of support that includes an individualized, after-treatment plan that the Breathing Space Thailand staff develop with clients toward the end of their program to help clients to set realistic and achievable goals for themselves, when they return to their everyday lives, post-treatment.

Stephen explains,

The time immediately after a client completes residential addiction rehab is a critical point in the addiction recovery process. For this reason we work very closely with our clients to create a detailed and achievable post-treatment schedule to support them in ensuring their ongoing success – beyond the Breathing Space Thailand residential addictions rehab program.
We work together with our clients to help them integrate the new, healthy balance of activities that they have found here at Breathing Space Thailand and to include some of these activities in their post-treatment schedule when they return home.
Many of our clients find themselves returning to a high-pressured working environment where finding quality time to relax and rejuvenate can seem like an impossibility. However, finding time to include healthy ways to relax and de-stress can make all the difference in maintaining a successful, ongoing recovery from addiction. Ultimately, recovery from drug or alcohol addiction requires change on a number of levels and the whole person (mind, body, soul) approach to addiction recovery enables us to encompass a full and complete process of change that yields the goals our clients rightfully expect.

Breathing Space Thailand provides clients with a complete spa centre that includes sauna and steam rooms, massage rooms and a Jacuzzi to facilitate an excellent range of complementary therapy. These amenities are further complemented by a yoga platform overlooking un-spoilt, panoramic mountain views and a secluded outdoor swimming pool.

Buddhist Monks Bless International Drug Alcohol Rehab Facility

In Thailand before moving into a new place, such as a house, an office building, or in our case a new addictions treatment facility, a Buddhist blessing ceremony is performed to bless the new place and its inhabitants and bring good luck.

Buddhist Monks Tam Boon Ceremony

Nine monks were invited on 9th January to bless the Breathing Space Thailand drug and alcohol addiction rehab facility at a special merit making ceremony called “tam boon” where food and other essential items were offered to the monks. The number nine is auspicious because pronounced in Thai “gaow” it also sounds like the Thai word meaning “to go forward” as well.

Around 40 guests attended the ceremony at Asia’s leading rehab, which was followed by a meal. The event provided friends of the Breathing Space Thailand residential drug and alcohol addictions rehab facility with the opportunity to view the new facility, which offers an unprecedented range of facilities and an excellent standard of treatment for those seeking help with a drug or alcohol addiction within the SE Asia region.

Garrett Tuck explains,

Providing a residential, drug and alcohol addiction rehab facility in a country like Thailand, enables us to offer our clients a unique approach to their addiction recovery and there are many components of our addiction rehab program that are strongly influenced by Thai culture. For us, it made perfectly good sense to extend this Thai approach to include the “tam boon” ceremony as a logical mark of respect and gratitude to the Thai tradition of Buddhism.
